What was an abandoned barracks and carpark in the early 1990s has been transformed into a unique media education centre. Through their prominent positions in their respective fields, the Film Academy, Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris, and the Academy of Performing Arts ensure the highest standards, both in the specialist areas and in interdisciplinary teaching.
A central feature of the Ludwigsburg campus is that the four educational facilities are autonomous in terms of their curriculum content, while simultaneously being interlinked on many levels. Each institution has first-class staff and technical equipment, a far-reaching international network, and a team of outstanding performers and practitioners. This inspiring coexistence and community carries an interdisciplinary spirit, which crosses the borders between narrative forms, genres, and technologies. The options involve film, animation, theatre, the latest digital post-production technologies, transmedia formats and much more in a spatial proximity which is unique in the European academic landscape.
A common credo of the four institutions is the strong project orientation of the study programmes. In addition to inspiration, students will also find the resources for their projects and, with their diverse and ambitious projects, contribute to a vibrant campus life.
Architecturally, the campus is an open and accessible ensemble – a sure sign of the blank canvas for artistic and personal development. In this spirit, the institutions of the campus open up their student rooms for individual development, the gaining of experience, and the development of interdisciplinary networks. The Ludwigsburg Campus remains an important part of the networks of its alumni, regardless of where their career paths lead them to after the completion of their studies.
