Wessel van Wanrooij

Wessel van Wanrooij (Tilburg, 1997) is a writer and director. His work is characterized by dark humor and tragic absurdities.

In 2017 he completed the orientation year of the Open Studio and then studied Directing Fiction at the Netherlands Film Academy. Here Wessel fully experimented in the search for his voice as a maker. In his third year he made the Swedish espionage thriller Krigshjältar (2021) and with his graduation film A Priest on Rain Boots he researched how to guarantee emotional involvement in an absurd narrative.

In addition to directing drama, Wessel also focuses on directing commercials.
