Screenwriting

During their four-year journey our screenwriting students encounter heroes, myths, dreams, archetypes, the collective unconscious, consequentially being confronted by the question of how stories come to life. They enter reality as hunters and collectors and open up their documentary perspective through their research. What makes an exciting character and a thrilling story, and which themes and conflicts can we use to grab the attention of the audience?

The curriculum includes studies in character, relationship and depth psychology, as well as various dramaturgical models, narrative structures and the building blocks of stories. Students receive extensive training in the art of writing dialogue.

All screenwriting seminars include an intensive combination of theory and practice, focusing on both individual and team work. We regularly hold intensive seminars in the countryside, which serve as a creative retreat from everyday life.

Great emphasis  is placed on preparing students for the commercial requirements and conditions of the German TV and Film industries. However, we believe it is just as important that studying at the Academy offers a protected framework for individual and artistic development, as well as narrative experiments. We therefore encourage and advise our students to develop stories which go beyond the narrative mainstream and to make their individual narrative visions a reality.
