Butoh - Schritte zwischen Himmel und Erde

Butoh is dance theatre. Light and darkness, joy and pain, death and life – Butoh combines all these contrasts and celebrates the transformation from one state to another.

The film explores the origin’s and fascination of this dance. We encounter dancers in Germany and Japan to find out why do they dance Butoh, what passion they follow and what has Butoh meant for their lives.

Beside all those personal and individual questions, the film will try to present and introduce an art form that is dance, theatre and a way of life, all at the same time.

In addition to countless anecdotes, the film transports Butoh’s fascinating cultural historical story.
