CV: Prof Thomas Schadt  

Writer, producer, director, cameraman, photographer

1957: born in Nuremberg After leaving high school: photography apprenticeship. Jobs as a tennis coach, barman, film projectionist, camera assistant, and theatre photographer.

1980-83: Studied at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB)

1983: Founded the film production company ODYSSEE-FILM. Since then, he has worked as a documentary film maker, photographer, cameraman, and author.

Since 1991: Numerous teaching roles at film academies and universities.

Since 1997: Member of the advisory board of the “Haus des Dokumentarfilms”, Stuttgart.

1999: Co-founder and later co-director of the SWR debut series “Junger Documentarfilm”, which was nominated for the Grimme Prize in 2001 and 2002.

Since 2000: Professor in the field of Directing (documentary films) at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg.

2001: Founder member of the documentary film initiative “Der zweite Blick”.

2000-2004: Jury member for the “First Steps” prize for young film makers.

2004-2007: Jury member for the “Deutscher Fernsehpreis” (German Television Prize).

2005-2007: Artistic Director of the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, Ludwigsburg.

Since 2005: Member of the European and German Film Academies

Since 2007: CEO of the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg

2010-2011: CEO of the Academy of Performing Arts, Baden Württemberg

Since 2013: Member of the Academy of Arts (Berlin)

2014: Friedrich Baur Prize from the Akademie der Schönen Künste, Munich, for film and media

2015/16: Artistic Director of the Nibelung Festival, Worms, under the direction of Nico Hofmann
