75TH GERMAN FILM AWARDS: TWO AWARDS FOR FABW ALUMNI

“LOLAS” for Julian R. Wagner and Jan Stoltz

On May 9, 2025, the German Film Awards were presented in Berlin. At the awards ceremony, two alumni of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg received the coveted LOLA: Julian R. Wagner* won in the category Best Production Design for the film SEPTEMBER 5, and Jan Stoltz (with Franzisca Puppe) was chosen in the category Best Visual Effects for HAGEN – IM TAL DER NIBELUNGEN.

This is the second LOLA for both of them. Jan Stoltz, a graduate of FABW's Animationsinstitut, received the award in 2020 for the effects in KÄNGURU-CHRONIKEN, while Julian R. Wagner won in 2021 for his creative work on TIDES.

Another great success for FABW were the nominations for the graduation film VENA (written and directed by Chiara Fleischhacker*) in the categories Best Feature Film (producers Martin Rohé and Dietmar Güntsche / Neue Bioskop), Best Cinematography (Lisa Jilg) and Best Female Lead (Emma Nova).

In addition, Philipp Sichler (Best Cinematography for CRANKO) and Sven Martin (Best Visual Effects for WOODWALKERS) made it onto the shortlist.

The German Film Awards are organized by the German Film Academy in cooperation with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM). They are considered the most important award in the industry in Germany. The “LOLAS” were presented on May 9, 2025 at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz. The nominees and winners are selected by the approximately 2,400 members of the German Film Academy.

* Chiara Fleischhacker and Julian R. Wagner are scholarship holders of the foundation Baden-Württemberg Stiftung and participated in an international exchange programme as part of their studies.
