FABW AND BETA FILM ENTER INTO STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

Cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and virtual production

New ways of thinking in the fields of artificial intelligence and virtual production: Beta Film and Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (FABW) are establishing a strategic partnership to develop innovative approaches in film and TV production. The aim of the framework agreement between the production group and one of the world's leading film and media academies is to establish and expand practical, European-based, and ethically responsible research, development, and training in the field of AI and virtual production.

Dr. Andreas Bareiss, Director, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg: “With this partnership, we are bringing the industry directly into our innovation laboratories in a field that is highly relevant for the future, once again demonstrating the exceptional proximity to industry and practical relevance for which FABW is known. Our students don't just learn theory – they are actively shaping the future of content production together with one of the most influential European players.”

Jan Wünschmann, Producer, Beta Film: “Training future generations of filmmakers has always been a high priority at Beta. With this partnership, we are taking it a step further. In addition to supporting new talent, we develop technologies and formats that will help shape the film and television landscape of the future. This collaboration is a great lab-to-market opportunity and an important part of our group-wide AI strategy.”

The cooperation between FABW and Beta Film is based on three pillars:

Pillar 1: Virtual Production (VP)

New methods of virtual production are to be tested and specifically trained. In this context, FABW is already planning to set up a new VP production environment on the Ludwigsburg campus in 2026 at the interface between physical production and virtual extension. Project and research initiatives can be undertaken and introduced by both cooperation partners – Beta Film and FABW.

Pillar 2: Artificial Intelligence & Startups

With an Incubation & Innovation Hub, FABW and Beta Film are establishing a virtual platform for testing and developing AI production workflows. On the one hand, it is intended to serve as a transfer point between applied research, teaching, and market productions, and on the other hand, it is designed as a nucleus for startup and business initiatives by young talents and industry partners.

Pillar 3: Future-oriented training programmes

FABW is expanding its training portfolio with a special focus on AI-relevant skills and the conscious use of AI applications. Starting in February 2026, FABW students (and career changers) will be able to apply for the new “Creative Series Producing” specialisation. In addition to classic development and production skills, the program will also teach data analysis, audience development, and storytelling with a focus on AI-supported applications. Among other things, the programme will include an AI micro-drama lab. Beta is involved in developing the curriculum and providing lecturers with practical experience.
