FILMAKADEMIE BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG LAUNCHES CLIMATE PROTECTION AUDIT
EN | Campus
PART OF FABW'S SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY
On October 24, 2025, the kick-off event for the “Introductory and Orientation Consultation on Climate Protection” took place at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. With the advice provided by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety, FABW will conduct a comprehensive status quo analysis in all relevant areas of the institution with regard to climate protection over the next 18 months.
As a result, five low-threshold climate protection projects will be identified, for example in the areas of reducing electricity and heating consumption, using renewable energy sources, or resource-saving measures in teaching and student film production. At least one of the projects will be implemented. Finally, the results will be transferred into an integrated climate protection concept.
The Filmakademie is supported by Würzburger Umwelt- und Qualitätsmanagement Consulting GmbH (WUQM) as an external service provider. Founded in 1994 and specializing in environmental management, WUQM will accompany the funding measure with workshops from the initial idea to certification-ready implementation and the final concept in April 2027.
Building on the findings of the WUQM consultation, FABW will then transfer the results of the process into an EMAS certification (environmental management system). EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is an instrument developed by the European Communities in 1993 for companies that want to operate in a credible, environmentally friendly, and sustainable manner.
Environmental management refers to the planning, organisation, control, and monitoring of all environmental protection activities of an organisation with the aim of implementing self-defined environmental guidelines, improving the organisation's measurable environmental performance, and reducing its environmental impact.
The climate protection initiative is part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy at FABW. In view of limited natural resources and livelihoods, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, as an internationally renowned university, sees itself – together with all its students and employees – as having a duty to actively contribute to solving global ecological and social challenges. In its efforts to make studying, working, and producing at the Filmakademie as sustainable as possible, it is guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030).
