To mark the opening of the Festival of Freedom, students from FABW and the ADK are jointly staging a transmedia show on the theme of ‘Freedom’. Under the open sky, they will bring the Akademiehof and the ADK Tower to life with performances, music, and video projections.
Starts at 8 pm
On 2 October, we are hosting a public festival: The campus will become a space for experiencing film, media, and theatre. We are celebrating free art, free teaching and research, free media, and the open exchange of ideas – the foundations of our democracy. Film programmes, performances, installations, panel discussions, open studios, campus tours and hands-on activities invite you to discover the diversity of film, media, and theatre and to engage in conversation with students, lecturers, and guests.
Starts at 11.00
Some of the FABW programme highlights on 2 October:
- Best of Filmakademie: At the Caligari Cinema and on a large LED screen in the Akademiehof, we will be screening films by our students and alumni, including Student Academy Award winners; some team members will be present to answer questions.
- It’s not a trick, it’s magic: The Animationsinstitut will be showing films, games, and interactive projects.
- How the Federal Constitutional Court (has) changed the country: Frank Bräutigam will screen his documentary “Schicksalsmomente der Republik” at the Caligari Cinema, followed by a discussion with the former Federal Minister of Justice, Prof. Hertha Däubler-Gmelin.
- Do digital capitalism and data colonialism threaten freedom? Author Dorothea Winter reads from her latest book “Artificial Intelligence and Democracy” and shows how deepfakes, tech monopolies and artificial intimacy are dividing our society.
- It’s just like sitting in a real carriage: the Production Design study course opens its doors and reveals sets from current film projects.
- How free are we to form our own opinions online? Angelos Iakovou from the State Authority for Communications (LFK) will speak in his lecture on the “manipulation of the digital information space”.
- Experienced actors, intensive practical training, personalised coaching and direct collaboration with directing and cinematography students in a professional film environment: The Screen Acting Department introduces itself.
- Democracy under pressure: In his reading, author Felix Heidenreich discusses the extent to which the crisis of liberal, open society is also self-inflicted – and makes a case for a “republicanism of sustainability”.
- Film set instead of auditorium: The casting office warmly invites anyone interested to come along and have their details added to the extras database on the spot.
- Public guided tours of of the FABW premises give an insight into just how complex filmmaking is.
