Debut film wins in Cannes

IN DIE SONNE SCHAUEN by Filmakademie alumna Mascha Schilinski won the Jury Prize at Cannes. The screenplay, co-written with Louise Peter at FABW, explores the female perspective over a century.

Graduation film BBYSTAR: World premiere in Toronto

The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the world's most important film festivals. The feature film BABYSTAR will celebrate its world premiere in the Discovery section of the 50th edition of the festival, which will take place from September 4 to 14, 2025.

Future Pact

SWR is strengthening its partnership with FABW by supporting student projects with an annual special fund of €100,000. The broadcaster also provides teaching opportunities and editorial support for innovative formats aimed at the ARD Mediathek.

Panel on diversity in the film industry

At the 42nd FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, the panel “Boosting the Next Generation” presented a progress report on promoting diversity. The project, initiated by the MaLisa Foundation, Netflix, and six film schools, will continue 2026.

Justus Pankau Camera Award 2025

On July 23, 2025, the Justus Pankau Camera Award, donated by the Lions Club Ludwigsburg-Monrepos, was presented at the FABW. It commemorates the DoP, long-time FABW lecturer, and Lions Club founding member Justus Pankau and was awarded this time to FABW graduate Sebastian Ganschow.

Respect Code Film

As the first German film school, FABW has signed the Respect Code Film, ensuring a respectful working environment, and joined the Themis Trust Center to strengthen its implementation.

FABW cooperates with AI start-up

The focus of the collaboration with the AI start-up Colibri and its developer Jonas Trottnow is on the ethical use of AI in the media sector.

Colibri is an innovative software solution for the local, data-sovereign use of AI for media analysis without the cloud.

Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg received the "Shaping Diversity" certificate for its successful two-year effort to promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities in all areas of its organization.

Student Oscars 2025: Two nominations for FABW

Two films produced at the Animationsinstitut have been nominated for the 2025 Student Academy Awards. The diploma films A SPARROW’S SONG and THE UNDYING PAIN OF EXISTENCE have made it to the final round of the coveted “Student Oscars.”

Im Jahr 2024 wird die Filmakademie die 28. Ausgabe der FMX ausrichten. Seit ihren Anfängen hat sich die FMX zu einer der weltweit wichtigsten Konferenzen für Animation, Effekte, interaktive und immersive Medien entwickelt.

Die FABW beteiligt sich auch in diesem Jahr wieder am landesweiten Studieninfotag. Allerdings ausschließlich online.

Für alle, die die Filmakademie live und in Farbe kennenlernen möchten, öffnen wir eine Woche später (Mittwoch, dem 27.11.) unsere Pforten und bieten in geführten Rundgängen einen Blick hinter die Kulissen.

Das genaue Programm für beide Tage wird noch bekannt gegeben.

 

Porsche Awards

Die Porsche Awards sind eine jährliche Auszeichnung für Werbefilmtalente, deren Jubiläums- und gleichzeitig letzte Verleihung im April 2024 stattfindet. Als einzigartiger, internationaler Werbepreis ohne kommerzielle Interessen fördern die Porsche Awards herausragende Talente, bieten eine repräsentative Plattform und haben in der Werbefilmbranche sowie der Presse an Bedeutung gewonnen.

Alumni-Empfang während der Berlinale

Während der Berlinale lädt die FABW wieder zum großen Empfang der FABW-Alumni in die Landesvertretung.
Einlass: Nur nach Anmeldung.

12. Kurzfilmtag

Die FABW beteiligt sich auch in diesem Jahr mit einem eigenen Programm am KURZFILMTAG, der traditionell am 21. Dezember, dem kürzesten Tag des Jahres, stattfindet. "BALANCEAKT" zeigt in 14 Produktionen, dass es gar nicht so einfach ist, das Gleichgewicht zu halten.

Der KURZFILMTAG lädt dazu ein, an verschiedenen Orten kurzfilmische Welten zu entdecken. Über 25.000 Zuschauer*innen nehmen jedes Jahr teil. Das Besondere: Jede und jeder kann eigene Veranstaltungen gestalten. Der 12. KURZFILMTAG 2023 steht unter dem Motto "In der Schwebe", welches die Zwischenzustände und die Verbindung von Unsicherheit und Gleichgewicht erkundet.

Filmvorführung des mehrfach preisgekrönten Diplom-Spielfilms ELAHA, gefolgt von einem exklusiven Drehbuch-Launch in der Edition FABW. Im Anschluss Gespräch mit den Filmemacherinnen Emina Smajic (Producerin) und Milena Aboyan (Regie) ein, gefolgt von einem gemütlichen Get-together.
