Akademie für Darstellende Kunst (Academy of Performing Arts)

The Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg (ADK) was founded in 2007, and comprehensively prepares students for careers relating to the stage and screen, in a manner which is unique within Germany. The programme of study is practice-oriented and project-based, and cooperation between directors, writers, actors and stage and set designers takes place on an inter-year and inter-programme basis. The study concept of the Academy of Performing Arts focusses on an interdisciplinary approach.

The closeness to the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, the common campus, and the cooperation with the staging and costume design departments at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design enables us to respond to an art which is undergoing major changes and in which theatrical professionals need more than ever to establish themselves more firmly and across the borders of their own métiers. Therefore, in addition to the thorough theatrical training, the ADK arranges integrated cross-departmental and trans-genre projects, which also use new media. Building bridges with various bodies and individuals from the theatrical and artistic industries is an objective of extensive collaboration. The ADK is able to do this with various theatres by participating in festivals and guest performances – on a regional, national and international level. In 2015, the ADK became a member of E:UTSA – an organisation which aims to connect universities and students across Europe – and mitos21, an association of theatre professionals from important and influential European theatrical institutions, which was founded in 2008.
