Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg is celebrating its 35th anniversary on 1 and 2 October 2026 with a varied programme. There will be a particular focus on events for alumni, students and industry representatives, including case studies, an alumni panel, plenty of networking opportunities, and a party.

35 Years of FABW – Creative Professionals Reception (Thu 1 Oct 2026 | 1.30–3.00 pm | Filmgalerie)
On 1 October, we’ll be putting you in direct contact with leading organisations in the creative industries and representatives from broadcasters, streaming platforms and production companies, including numerous FABW alumni. This event focuses on you and your project ideas – an excellent opportunity for industry exchange and networking.

35 Years of FABW – Alumni Anniversary Gathering (Fri 2 Oct 2026 | 10:00–11:30 | Filmgalerie)
Following a party at the Albrecht Ade Studio for the entire FABW community on Thursday evening, we’ll kick off the second day of the ‘Festival of Freedom’ together. Look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new faces over coffee, tea, a glass of sparkling wine, and sweet and savoury treats.

“Alumni AkaTour” (Fri 2 Oct 2026 | 11.30 | Meeting point: under the tent)
Immediately following the alumni gathering, we’re offering a guided tour of the Filmakademie premises in two parallel groups of up to 20 people each. This will be of particular interest to our older alumni, so you can see how much has changed since you received your diploma. Each tour lasts approximately 100 minutes and takes you (subject to availability) through the equipment store, the sound stages, the Animationsinstitut, and the sound postproduction department, amongst other places.

Case Studies and Anniversary Panel (Thu 1 Oct 2026 | 09:30–15:30 | Filmgalerie + Caligari Cinema)
Presentations and panel discussions featuring a number of FABW alumni whose successful careers following their time at FABW have been shaped by close collaboration within their alumni network, covering topics such as ‘Working for/with streaming services and broadcasters’.
In the case studies, the following speakers, amongst others, will discuss their projects, career paths and experiences:

“Creative LÄND – Campus Connect” (Thu 1 Oct 2026 | 15:30–19:00 | Filmgalerie)
The media and creative sector in Baden-Württemberg – and indeed throughout Germany – offers a wide range of opportunities for creative professionals for personal growth and to develop their ideas. With plenty of scope for personal exchange and advice, the following broadcasters and institutions, amongst others, provide direct insights into opportunities for young professionals – particularly students and alumni – as they make the transition from their studies to their future careers, as well as in the years that follow:

If, after the alumni gathering on Friday, you’d prefer to continue chatting in a smaller group or need to leave, you can also take part in a guided tour of Filmakademie on day one. However, these tours are not reserved exclusively for alumni. Here too, the maximum number of participants is 20.

Party (Thu 1 Oct 2026 | from 21:00 | Albrecht Ade Studio)
To round off Day 1, we’d like to celebrate with the entire FABW community – that is, with students, staff, lecturers and alumni.
Open to anyone with accreditation or an entry wristband. Upon entry, care will be taken to ensure that the maximum capacity of the Ade Studio is not exceeded.
Of course, as part of our anniversary celebrations – and particularly the public festival on Day 2 – we’re also offering a range of freely accessible events, such as film screenings, a joint multimedia show by ADK and FABW to mark the opening of the Festival of Freedom, workshops and showcases from various FABW study programmes, readings by authors from Reclam publishing house on the topics of ‘Democracy under Pressure’ and ‘Artificial Intelligence and Democracy’, and a film screening followed by a discussion with ARD legal expert Frank Bräutigam.
