New international programme at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg: London Eyes Workshop with Christian Schwochow

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and National Film and Television School are launching a programme for up-and-coming film and television talent – funded by the foundation Baden-Württemberg Stiftung

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (FABW) and the renowned National Film and Television School (NFTS) in Beaconsfield near London are launching the London Eyes Workshop in summer 2026. This year, the three-week flagship programme offers 12 students from FABW the opportunity to work in intensive workshops with industry experts from the British film and television industry.

The workshop is divided into two phases: during the first two weeks, students specialising in directing, screenwriting and production at NFTS will develop their own series ideas in a writers’ room setting. The projects are then presented to a group of British and international industry experts. In the third week, the group travels together to London, where the successful FABW graduate, director and producer Christian Schwochow (including THE CROWN, MÜNCHEN – IN THE FACE OF WAR, JE SUIS KARL, HAMBURG DAYS) provides insights into collaboration with top-tier international production companies, studios and streaming services, and facilitates exclusive industry contacts.

“Our new ‘London Eyes Workshop’ is a key component of our international strategy. In times of profound geopolitical upheaval, it is essential for us that our students build strong European networks in particular,” says Prof Dr Andreas Bareiß, Artistic and Managing Director of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. “London is a highly exciting hub for filmmakers from all over the world – and for us, the new gateway to the Anglo-Saxon world of filmmaking. The collaboration with the NFTS and the support from the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung enable an international space for learning and experience, the impact of which will extend far beyond the course of study.”

Christian Schwochow was happy to agree to take part in the workshop: “As an alumnus of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, I still feel closely connected to the institution to this day. From my career since my graduation film NOVEMBERKIND (2008), I know how valuable international networks are – my path has taken me from Ludwigsburg to projects such as THE CROWN, MÜNCHEN – IM ANGESICHT DES KRIEGES or the series THE DISPATCHER (working title), which I am currently filming in Australia on behalf of Apple TV+. At the ‘London Eyes Workshop‘, I want to help FABW students open doors to global projects through networking and expertise. London is the perfect place for this.”

Guido Lukoschek, Head of the FABW International Office, adds: “Our students not only complete a top-class workshop programme in London, but also return to Filmakademie with new project ideas and valuable contacts. We are excited to see the creative inspiration that will result from this. We are particularly pleased that our globally successful graduate Christian Schwochow will be closely mentoring the group for a week and giving them access to his personal, international network.”
