Hollywood up close – The Hollywood Workshop 2024
EN | FABW International
A dream becomes reality
It is the dream of many filmmakers: to experience the glitz and glamour of Hollywood up close and learn from the greats of the industry. For twelve selected students from the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, this dream became a reality in the summer of 2024. As part of the Hollywood Workshop, which took place in collaboration with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), they gained exclusive insights into how the dream factory works.
Focus and highlights of the workshop
The workshop, made possible by scholarships from the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung and the collecting society for rights in film works (VGF) mbH, focused on script development, project planning, production and marketing. The students had the opportunity to learn directly from Hollywood greats such as screenwriter Gordon Smith, production designer legend Rick Carter, cinematographer Alicia Robbins and producer Jordan Horowitz.
Visits to industry giants
Participation and grants
Those who wish to participate in the Hollywood Workshop must apply. The workshop is only open to enrolled Film Academy students who have completed their basic studies. After the selection process, six students are awarded the ‘Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for film production’, and a further six receive a scholarship from the VGF for the production department.
An unforgettable experience
Three intensive weeks full of exciting encounters and unforgettable impressions – the Hollywood Workshop 2024 was a unique experience for everyone involved.
