Hilarija Laura Locmele was born in 1994 in Latvia. From 2013 to 2016, she studied Film and Television with the qualification Directing/Producing at the college Medienakademie in Munich, Germany. Thereafter in 2017, she began her studies at the University of Television and Film Munich in the department Film and Television Documentary. She was able to gain work experience at different short film productions as well as internships at production companies and TV channels. She is currently working at the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung in the division for Digital Development and on various online television formats as an author. In the summer of 2022, she received the Starter Film Award of the City of Munich for her documentary film ''Desired Child''.
