Debut film wins in Cannes

IN DIE SONNE SCHAUEN by Filmakademie alumna Mascha Schilinski won the Jury Prize at Cannes. The screenplay, co-written with Louise Peter at FABW, explores the female perspective over a century.

Graduation film BBYSTAR: World premiere in Toronto

The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the world's most important film festivals. The feature film BABYSTAR will celebrate its world premiere in the Discovery section of the 50th edition of the festival, which will take place from September 4 to 14, 2025.

Future Pact

SWR is strengthening its partnership with FABW by supporting student projects with an annual special fund of €100,000. The broadcaster also provides teaching opportunities and editorial support for innovative formats aimed at the ARD Mediathek.

Panel on diversity in the film industry

At the 42nd FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, the panel “Boosting the Next Generation” presented a progress report on promoting diversity. The project, initiated by the MaLisa Foundation, Netflix, and six film schools, will continue 2026.

Justus Pankau Camera Award 2025

On July 23, 2025, the Justus Pankau Camera Award, donated by the Lions Club Ludwigsburg-Monrepos, was presented at the FABW. It commemorates the DoP, long-time FABW lecturer, and Lions Club founding member Justus Pankau and was awarded this time to FABW graduate Sebastian Ganschow.

Respect Code Film

As the first German film school, FABW has signed the Respect Code Film, ensuring a respectful working environment, and joined the Themis Trust Center to strengthen its implementation.

FABW cooperates with AI start-up

The focus of the collaboration with the AI start-up Colibri and its developer Jonas Trottnow is on the ethical use of AI in the media sector.

Colibri is an innovative software solution for the local, data-sovereign use of AI for media analysis without the cloud.

Award for Successful Diversity Strategy

Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg received the "Shaping Diversity" certificate for its successful two-year effort to promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities in all areas of its organization.

Graduation film YUMI in the ARD Media Library

In an advisory opinion issued on July 23, the International Court of Justice strengthened climate protection. The FABW diploma film YUMI - THE WHOLE WORLD accompanied the long road to this advisory opinion. It can now be viewed in the ARD media library.
