Strategic Partnership

Studio Babelsberg and FABW have agreed on strategic cooperation in the field of virtual production. Their first joint project is a digital “backlot scan” for research, teaching, and virtual productions.

FABW introduces new study specialisation

Creative Series Producing combines training in core creative storytelling skills with data- and AI-driven development and production methods. Applications will be accepted starting in January 2026.

Filmfestival Max Ophüls Prize

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg is represented at the MAX OPHÜLS PRIZE with the documentary NICHTS BLEIBT UND NICHTS VERSCHWINDET, the short films TAUT, THE GIRL IS TAKEN AWAY BY ALIENS, and NON-LIEUX, as well as other alumni films.

Central and Eastern Europe in focus

Film schools in Ludwigsburg and Łódź sign a cooperation agreement to strengthen European film and media exchange. The central project is the new ‘Central Eastern Europe Class’ (CEEC).

FIRST STEPS Awards

The FABW graduation film SKIN ON SKIN won three awards at the FIRST STEPS Awards 2025. It tells the story of a quiet connection between a security guard and a worker at a slaughterhouse.

FABW establishes Carl Laemmle Institute (CLI)

Focus on activities in the fields of artistic-technological research, digital innovation, and forward-looking production methods, headed by Prof. Volker Helzle.

FABW animation film wins Student Academy Award in gold

The Student Academy Award 2025 in gold in the category “Animation” goes to A SPARROW'S SONG. The diploma project by director and producer Tobias Eckerlin was created at the Animationsinstitut of FABW.

FABW and Beta Film enter into strategic partnership

The aim of the cooperation with the sales and production group is to establish and expand practical, European-based, and ethically responsible research, development, and training in the field of AI and virtual production.

FABW LAUNCHES CLIMATE PROTECTION AUDIT

As part of its sustainability strategy, FABW will be working with WUQM over the coming months to conduct a comprehensive status quo analysis on climate protection. The results will then be incorporated into an integrated climate protection concept.

Respect Code Film

The Film Academy Baden-Württemberg (FABW) is the first German film school to sign up to the Respect Code Film.

The rules set out in the code will apply to everyone working at and for the film academy: staff, lecturers and students. As part of this, the film academy will also join the Themis Trust Centre.
