STUDY ANIMATIONSINSTITUT

The department of Studies Coordination at the Animationsinstitut creates the curriculum in consultation with the Institute Director and the heads of the various departments and ensures that teaching operations run smoothly.

HEAD OF PRODUCTION ANIMATIONSINSTITUT

Planning and organization of the film projects of the Animationsinstitut are carried out by the production management. It supervises the execution of projects, advises students and ensures - in close cooperation with the faculties - compliance with the technical and organizational specifications as well as the guidelines of the Filmakademie. It checks the correctness of the electronic project folder (ePro) in terms of calculations, legality and planning.

The Communications Department at the Animationsinstitut is responsible for the Institute’s external communitions.

CONTROLLING

The central task of the Controlling department is to support all departments in the Filmakademie in business management issues. In addition to budget planning and monitoring, the main tasks are the generation of informative reports for the management and the supervisory board to aid the management of the company. Risk management and internal auditing tasks are also assigned to this department.

DISTRIBUTION AND LICENSES

The Distribution and Licensing department is responsible for both the non-commercial and the commercial use of Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg productions in the areas of TV, cinema and VOD/Internet. It is the point of contact for licensing inquiries and contracts. In addition, the team provide assistance on project completion and related rights issues.

STUDENT EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OFFICER /
GENDER & DIVERSITY IN PROGRESS

Together with five other German film schools, Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg is part of an initiative which set itself the goals of creating awareness of gender representation in film, empowering women in the film business, and fostering a zero-tolerance approach to dealing with sexualized violence and any form of discrimination in 2018. The aim is to signal to other universities that thoughts and actions occur here in a gender-just way.

In addition, the Head of Studies organizes seminars and workshops on topics related to gender and diversity  as part of the programme "Gender & Diversity in Progress".  All events for this programme can be accessed via the teaching online calendar of the same name, the Wiki >Study Home >Gender and Diversity in Progress, and the FABW website.

The festival office coordinates and organizes participation in national and international festivals, competitions and prizes in collaboration with the students.

The casting office of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg is in close contact with actors, casting directors and agencies worldwide. FABW students can receive support and advice on casting their projects.

All of the Filmakademie's activities are reflected in figures, which are managed by the Finance and Accounting department. Financial Accounting is responsible for the correct posting of receipts, proper payment and project accounting. This includes the processing of projects in the basic course and project course programs, the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris and third-party funded productions as well as payment transactions, dunning, fixed assets and general administration. At the end of the business year, the annual financial statement is the core activity in Finance and Accounting.

One of the main areas of focus for the Head of Studies’ conceptual considerations is the efficient interdisciplinary integration of course offers and classes relevant to the entire campus.

The International Office is the central point of contact for all questions regarding the internationalization of the Filmakademie. It coordinates the worldwide partner and exchange programmes with other film schools and partner institutions, organizes the curriculum of the International Class (ICLA) and provides mobility scholarships for outgoing and incoming students. Furthermore, it is the central point of contact for all questions and activities concerning the transition of project course programmes to bilingual (German-English) instruction.

The IT-OfficeNet department is the central planning, coordination and support body for IT issues at FABW. It operates the Filmakademie's network and the central data processing systems for administration and teaching. This also includes the administration of all software and servers used. This post involves negotiating, drafting, and finalizing contracts for co-productions, collaborations, commissioned productions, and all other contracts (typically associated with film productions). In addition, students are provided with legal advice. Legal issues that arise in the course of student film productions, such as copyright issues, music rights, “Gema” issues, performer contracts, author contracts and legal disputes such as claims for damages, insurance cases, etc. are also dealt with here.
The office of the legal advisor ensures that projects run as smoothly as possible and are legally compliant, so that ideally the later use of materials to generate returns for the Filmakademie and for those involved is possible.

The library / video & media library of the Filmakademie is located on the ground floor of the Metropolis building (MET 0.41, barrier-free access) and has an extensive film collection consisting of 17,000 DVDs and 1,000 Blu-Rays of all genres, as well as 31,000 books. The collection focuses on film and media studies in all thematic aspects, which are oriented towards the teaching events and artistic topics of FABW, and is supplemented by a selection of related subject areas (photography, art, literature, comics, etc.).

Only members of the Filmakademie (lecturers, staff, students) can borrow media from the collection. Work and research spaces are available. Curated film lists on selected topics are posted on Letterboxd (https://boxd.it/9ZFaP). About 50 magazines are subscribed to.

In regards to teaching, the Filmakademie management is responsible for, among other things, the conception and planning of the curriculum for all students and the guests of the exchange programmes, recruitment of teachers, study coordinators and project supervisors, decision-making  on third-party funded productions and special projects,  development of media locations for alumni and start-ups as well as regional, national and international cooperation with editorial offices, production companies, agencies, multipliers, service providers, industry associations and distribution partners and active networking for students and graduates.

In the area of administration, responsibilities include job planning, human resources planning and development, finance and accounting, controlling, risk management and financial statements, business structure and management of IT services in terms of technology, facilities and equipment, evaluation and handling of legal issues, general administration in terms of procurement and business organization, as well as the International Office for the implementation of the Filmakademie's internationalization strategy.

Financial processing, accounting and archiving of all production staff is also carried out here.

Primarily corporate films and commercials are realized, but also fiction film projects, documentaries and projects with animation/VFX content.
