Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg joins the Respect Code Film

As the first film school in Germany:

Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (FABW) is the first German film school to join the Respect Code Film. With the signing by the director and managing director of FABW, Dr. Andreas Bareiß, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Munich Film Festival, the voluntary commitment to comply with the code became effective. The regulations set out in the code will apply in future to all persons working at and for the Film Academy: employees, lecturers, and students. In this context, the Film Academy will also join the Themis Trust Center.

The aim of the Respect Code Film is to ensure a professional and mutually respectful working environment for all employees, whether freelance or permanent, in film and television productions. It defines the principles of good cooperation in film production and clarifies which behaviors are not tolerated on film sets. The aim is to promote a fear-free and supportive working environment and enable communication on an equal footing. In addition, the Respect Code Film names the persons responsible for compliance with and implementation of these principles and indicates contact points and procedures in the event of violations or misconduct. The Filmakademie will expand the competencies of existing contact points.

Dr. Andreas Bareiß, Director of FABW: "Respectful cooperation and a fear-free working atmosphere are essential, both in film education and in film production. With our commitment to comply with the Respect Code Film, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg is sending a clear signal that we condemn disrespect, discrimination, or racism in any form and will not tolerate it."

Wiebke Wiesner, acting managing director of the Produktionsallianz: “We are delighted to welcome Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg among the signatories. For us, this is a very visible signal to the industry and an important step towards establishing the Respect Code Film as a general industry standard. After all, the foundations for respectful interaction should be laid during training.”

The Respect Code Film was created on the initiative of the Production Alliance, the Federal Association of Actors (BFFS) and the Ver.di union, supported and advised by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Federal Film Board (FFA), the Berlin-Brandenburg Media Board, the Themis Trust Center against Sexual Harassment and Violence, and the Professional Association for Energy, Textiles, and Media Products (BG ETEM). The first signatories include ARD, ZDF, the German Film Academy, the Federal Association of Directors (BVR), ARD Degeto, Netflix, and VAUNET – Association of Private Media.
