Programmes focussing on animation consist of two years of basic study and two years of project-based study, with all students of the Film Academy participating in the interdisciplinary foundation course. Project-based study at the Animation Institute facilitates intensive work on personal projects, as well as specialisation in a chosen area of study.
Effects art is one of six specialisms in the programme focussing on animation. The effects artist is responsible for designing and integrating digital sets, props, effects and characters. This includes planning effects, previsualisation, set supervision, recording and processing live action footage, production computer-animated material, compositing and finishing.
The structure of study programmes which focus on animation is based around production processes used in animation or VFX projects, and is divided into five production phases. At the end of each phase, certain milestones must have been achieved so that the project can enter the next phase. In the different phases, all teams will be supervised by guest lecturers. In cooperation with the project supervisors, the production managers monitor the progress of the projects.
