Production design

During the two-year project-based study course, which ends with a diploma semester, students are taught both creative-artistic and organisational-technical content, which prepares them for real-life production conditions.
The course covers a wide range of aspects, from the research and the initial sketches, to the concrete production design concepts and their direct structural implementation during exercises/workshops, to teaching content such as picture analysis, film and television history, costume design and costing.

The seminars are led by experts from the film industry, and enable students to gain an insight into the productions and working methods of various set designers.

The course focusses on the realisation of a range of Film Academy projects. In close collaboration with the directing, image design/camera work, interactive media, motion design and animation departments, many extraordinary works are produced over the course of the year and are, for example, shown in the Film Academy “Highlights”, or at international festivals.

There are posibilities to attend international exchange programmes with filmschools in Sweden, Finland, India, and join the Hollywood Workshop.
