Animationinstitut

The Animation Institute was founded in 2002, as part of the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. It has since become one of the most successful training centres for animation, VFX and interactive media – on both a national and international scale.

The curriculum is practice-oriented and project-based. It covers the entire spectrum of animation, and interdisciplinary work with all the departments of the Film Academy is encouraged from the outset. Internationally renowned guest speakers contribute to the teaching, and the Institute is in constant contact with leading film academies worldwide. The excellent teaching is supplemented by a very good technical infrastructure and innovative research work.

Numerous festival prizes for students’ projects, as well as excellent professional opportunities for graduates prove the Animation Institute’s educational concept. Graduation films by our diploma students regularly win prizes at the industry’s major festivals, including SIGGRAPH and the VES Awards. Many alumni of the Institute begin their careers in internationally operating media companies and well-known studios. Others establish their own companies – usually on the basis of concepts that they have developed during their studies.

An annual highlight is the FMX Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia, which the Animation Institute has hosted since 1994. This English-language non-profit event is Europe’s most influential conference on the creation, production and distribution of digital entertainment, and brings major players from the industries to Stuttgart every spring.
